The Organics Council ® Approved Substance List is the first global list of substances that are scientifically proven to be the safest for both humans and the planet.
When it comes to the organic production and delivery of both food and non-food products and services, the Organics Council ® Approved Substance List is the sole source for substance use approval complying with the Organics Council ® regulations. The Organics Council ® maintains that food must be as pure and healthy as possible, produced without chemical inputs that are harmful to humans and the environment. Where additives such as preservatives are a necessity, it is our responsibility to thoroughly test all substances before approving the safest alternatives. Tests are carried out on substances declared safe by governments as well, and only a minimal number of substances are approved for use in foods by the Council. There are no shortcuts; we follow a strict assessment protocol for each and every substance we approve. There is no place for subjectivity when it comes to the Organics Council ® Approved Substance List.
The Organics Council ® Approved Substance List is a global epitome of safety excellence
Substance test protocols at all times. We have developed robust substance assessment scientific protocols for all stages of substance safety assessment that go above and beyond the current safety tests performed by regulatory and statutory bodies. Our protocols guarantee an exceptional international standard of excellence in the assessment of substance safety.
Building a safety database from scratch. We started the Organics Council ® Approved Substance List from scratch, without taking for granted what was already used and approved by government bodies. For the first time in the history of substance safety assessment, we are treating environmental and human safety equally by combining both assessments into a single gold-standard assessment. We are constantly working to test more substances to expand the Approved Substance List, allowing more products to be manufactured in the safest and most sustainable manner possible.
